February 2009   Meetings in Progress

United Food and Commercial Workers

You can count on AVW-TELAV to make the nearly impossible possible! With advancements in videoconferencing and AV technology, Barack Obama, U.S. President, was able to deliver a speech on one-day's notice from Florida to the 2000 attendees at the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) 6th Regular Convention in Montreal. Even with miles of separation, last-minute confirmation, and a storm in Florida, Obama was able to provide dynamic and animated interaction with the delegates, enabling his presence to be felt as if he were in the very same room.

Produced by Convention Services Unlimited, the UFCW convention was a large-scale event for which AVW-TELAV provided a 21'x63' screen three-projector blend with matrix capability. The four-camera shoot magnified Obama's image for the entire audience's viewing in addition to recording the footage for future playback and editing. AVW-TELAV managed multiple screens, projectors and sound in the exhibit area and provided an on site editing suite for the sound proof studio. AVW-TELAV provided equipment for more than 30 breakout rooms and the Gala event.

The UFCW banquet-style Gala hosted more than 3000 participants, was held in a massive 614' x 177' room with 42 bars and two main stages facing each other, 150' apart. There were also three additional stages for a circus act. AVW-TELAV positioned twelve 15'x20' screens set up in six groups of two, surrounding the entire room. Each group of two displayed a different image, based on where the live action was. Mastering the art and innovations of presentation technology, AVW-TELAV was truly able to bring the UFCW Convention and Gala to presidential heights!
