E-Programs - Star Wars

Following our September story on the Sci-Fi Channel's new booth, is a tale of another futuristic makeover - this time from the Granddaddy of all Sci-Fi franchises: Star Wars. For the same San Diego Comic-Con Convention, the most prestigious convention of its kind in the world, the marketing and licensing divisions of Lucasfilm desired something truly unforgettable for their allotted floor space.

Lucasfilm is most famous for producing the Star Wars films, but it has produced other huge box office hits, including the Indiana Jones franchise and American Graffiti. Along the way, they have pioneered astounding new technologies in special effects, sound, and computer animation.

San Diego Comic-Con annually attracts over 100,000 enthusiastic, hardcore science fiction fans. This year, the Lucasfilm crew felt a re-design was necessary to maintain their high standards, as the aim was to remind fans that the Star Wars brand would go on long after Revenge of the Sith had left the theatres. Working hand-in-hand with AVW-TELAV and Freeman (who recommended us to the Star Wars team); we came up with a stunning booth filled with walls of light and flat screen technology.

The walls were made up of 150 Barco 6mm flat LED panels; we projected clips from the various Star Wars episodes and also the interviews and lightsaber demonstrations going on live inside the booth. The staging also included 50x50x50 hanging LED Panels, and 100 Lekos and moving lights. The careful rigging of the three-sided LED screen allowed us to create an omni-directional viewing area for the tens of thousands of visitors to the booth.
